
From 16 to 19 February 2023, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of an Economy that works for People, and Commissioner for Trade, Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of a stronger Europe in the World, Dubravka Šuica, Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Democracy and Demography, Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of promoting our European Way of Life, and Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Budget and Administration, participated in the 59th Munich Security Conference (MSC) in Munich, Germany. Close to one year after Russia launched its war of aggression against Ukraine, this edition as an opportunity to discuss how to continue supporting Ukraine defend its country and the rules-based international order, address the global consequences of the war, and tackle global and regional security challenges. The Commissioners also held a number of bilateral meetings in the margins of the Conference.
The MSC is an annual conference on international security policy that has taken place in Munich, Bavaria, since 1963. Over the past four decades the Munich Security Conference has become the most important independent forum for the exchange of views by international security policy decision-makers.
