Accession of Austria, Finland, and Sweden to the European Union
On 1 January 1995, Austria, Finland and Sweden officially became Members of the EU. The three future Member States submitted their formal applications for membership in July 1989, July 1991 and March 1992 respectively. On 24 and 25 June 1994, at the Corfou European Council the signing ceremony for the accession to the European Union of Austria, Sweden, Finland and Norway, took place, with the participation of the Heads of State and Government of these countries.
