Proposed sanctions against the Israeli government: Press conference with Vice-President Kaja Kallas and Commissioners Maroš Šefčovič and Dubravka Šuica
On 17 September 2025, the European Commission announced to propose sanctions against the Israeli government in light of the ongoing military aggressions of Israel in Gaza and in the West Bank, having resulted in a devastating humanitarian situation.
During a press conference held by Vice-President Kaja Kallas and Commissioners Maroš Šefčovič and Dubravka Šuica, the following measures will be proposed:
- The suspension of certain trade-related provisions of the Association Agreement between the EU and Israel
- The temporary interruption of bilateral support to Israel
- Sanctions against Hamas, extremist ministers, and violent Israeli settlers.
These proposed sanctions will now have to be approved by the Council.
