In this laboratory, the JRC measures the load-carrying capability of materials subjected to different loads such as force, temperature or a combination of both. The laboratory is also developing new testing methods to obtain material properties using smaller volumes of material and contributes to the standardisation of these new methods. The underlying goal of the laboratory is to better understand the behaviour of structural materials used in nuclear power plants.
