On 27 February 2024, Mairead McGuinness, European Commissioner for Financial Services, Financial Stability, and Capital Markets Union, attended a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, on the geographical Indications (GIs) for wine, spirit drinks and agricultural products.
During the plenary session, the Parliament gave its final green light to the reform of EU rules strengthening the protection of Geographical Indications for wine, spirit drinks and agricultural products. The regulation adopted following the debate protects GIs offline and online, gives more powers to their producers and simplifies the registration process of GIs.
