On 7 and 8 February 2022, Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of a stronger Europe in the World and Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, went to Washington D.C., United States. On the first day, they met with Antony J. Blinken, US Secretary of State, and Jennifer M. Granholm, US Secretary of Energy, to discuss subjects such as the EU-US cooperation on energy security and to join efforts for a clean energy transition to climate neutrality for citizens of the EU, the United States and around the globe. Kadri Simson also met bilaterally with Jennifer M. Granholm and gathered with members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Global Energy Institute. Josep Borrell Fontelles also visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture .
On the second day, Josep Borrell Fontelles spoke at the inaugural event of the Jean Monnet Conversations series, co-organised by the EU Delegation, the French Embassy and The Atlantic. Later, together with Kadri Simson, Josep Borrell Fontelles participated in a press conference at the EU Delegation.
