
On 12 and 13 January 2023, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and the College of the European Commission travelled to Kiruna, Sweden to participate in the introductory meeting of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. During the two days visit, the Commission and the Swedish government discussed current issues in the EU, including the green transition. They also discussed the priorities of the Presidency for the six upcoming months: security, competitiveness; the green and energy transitions; and the democratic values and the rule of law.
On 12 January 2023, Ursula von der Leyen and the College of Commissioners visited the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, and they were welcomed by Ulf Kristersson, Swedish Prime Minister. Later, she had a courtesy meeting with Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden. Finally, Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commissionners attended a dinner hosted by Ulf Kristersson. On 13 January 2023, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Ulf Kristersson, Swedish Prime Minister, held a press conference on the Presidency's agenda.
