
From 6 to 13 December 2023, Wopke Hoekstra, European Commissioner for Climate Action, travelled to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to participated to the United Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) meeting/COP28.
During COP28, the Commissioner participated in several events and meetings.
On 6, he met with Teresa Ribera, Third Deputy Spanish Prime Minister and Ministerfor the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and Benjamin Van Bunderen Robberechts, Climate Advisor to the Child RightsInternational Network (CRIN).
On 9, he spoke at the high-level plenary on the tenth day of COP28, as well as for the high-level event on pre-2030 ambition. He then participated in the ministerial meeting with the LDC Group.
On 10, he met with John Kerry, US Special Envoy for Climate, together with Teresa Ribera, and then met with young people at the EU Pavilion COP28 and also with Tom Carper, Senior US Senator for Delaware.
On 11, he met with António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), together with Teresa Ribera, with Chris Bowen, Australian Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Grace Fu, Singaporean Minister for Sustainability and Environment, and Shintaro Ito, Japanese Minister for the Environment. He then participated in an EU meeting in the framework of COP28.
On 12, he spoke at the EU coordination meeting. He then met with Sultan Ahmed-Al Jaber, President-designate of COP28, and Adnan Amin, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), together with Teresa Ribera. The Commissioner also participated in the European Coordination Meeting.
On 13, Wopke Hoekstra attended the COP28 plenary session.
