On 28 and 29 June 2019, G20 Leaders met in Osaka, Japan, as part of the G20. It was the first G20 Summit to be hosted by Japan and Shinzō Abe, Japanese Prime Minister, hosted the Summit. The European Union was represented by Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the EC, and Donald Tusk, President of the European Council. G20 Leaders focused their discussions on 8 themes: global economy, trade and investment, digital transformation, climate and energy, employment, women's empowerment, development and health.
At the end of the Summit, all countries, except the United States, reaffirmed their commitment to respect the Paris Climate Agreement. The Summit's final declaration also contained a call to reform the World Trade Organization (WTO) and keep markets open.
