On 8 May 2020, Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of a stronger Europe in the World, participated in the United Nations Security Council Arria-Formula meeting (informal meeting) on the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War on European soil.
This debate offered an opportunity not only to discuss lessons learned from the past, but also to evaluate current security threats posed by conflicts around the world.
This meeting brought together high-level participants, including Foreign Ministers from across the world, and was organised by Estonia, which held the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council in May 2020.
