On 28 May 2020, Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of a stronger Europe in the World, addressed the UN Security Council on the EU's role in the preservation of international peace and security at the invitation of Estonia, which was holding the rotating Presidency of the Security Council. This was the first annual presentation of Josep Borrell Fontelles to the UN Security Council on the EU's contribution to global peace and security. In times of global uncertainty, the EU and its Member States remain the strongest partners of the UN in the field of peace and security.
