The bioeconomy covers all sectors of our economy
that rely on renewable biological resources,
and the ecosystems they come from.
It includes agriculture,
forestry,
fisheries and aquaculture,
as well as the industries that produce food,
feed,
materials,
energy
and services from these resources.
The EU, through its Bioeconomy Strategy,
is committed to ensuring that
the bioeconomy’s economic and social benefits
go hand in hand with healthy ecosystems.
For us, and for future generations.
Together we can shape a sustainable and circular bioeconomy
where biological resources are sourced,
used and reused responsibly
A bioeconomy that can contribute
to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals…
and to the European Green Deal,
helping Europe to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.
To help achieve its objectives,
the European Commission has launched
a Bioeconomy Monitoring System.
This new system provides comprehensive,
robust and reliable information
to monitor all areas of the bioeconomy.
It is available online, with interactive dashboards,
allowing anyone to track the bioeconomy’s progress
towards environmental, societal
and economic sustainability in the EU and its Member States.
Active engagement of experts from EU Member States,
academia and international organisations
will ensure that the Monitoring System
remains a functional and up-to-date tool.
So that the bioeconomy contributes effectively
to the European Green Deal
and the EU’s commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals.
