On 20 January 2021, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, attended a plenary session of the EP in Brussels, Belgium, on the inauguration of the new President of the United States and the current political situation.

During this plenary session, the Members of the EP welcomed the inauguration of Joe Biden, new President of the United States, as an opportunity for Europe to strengthen EU-US ties and tackle common challenges and threats to the democratic system.
