On 9 February 2021, Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of a stronger Europe in the World, participated in the Plenary Session of the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium, where he gave a closing statement on the situation in Myanmar.
On this occasion, Josep Borrell Fontelles ended his speech by saying that the EU is calling for national democracy to be upheld by Myanmar. He added that, with all its shortcomings, Myanmar remains a positive experiment in the region and it is important to help the country by acting strongly, quickly and in coordination with all partners.
