On 19 April 2021, Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of a stronger Europe in the World, chaired an informal meeting via videoconference with EU Ministers for Foreign Affairs.
Among other items, they exchanged views on Ukraine, then they discussed the situation in the Tigray region in Ethiopia, where fighting is ongoing, full humanitarian access is still being prevented, and human rights violations continue. EU Ministers were also informed about the deteriorating situation of Alexei Navalny in Russia, and the expulsion of Russian diplomats linked to the explosion of an ammunition depot in 2014.
