On 3 June 2021, Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of a stronger Europe in the World, travelled to Jakarta, Indonesia, where he gave a speech at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on the EU approach to the Indo-Pacific.
It follows the launch on 19 April 2021 by the European Union's Foreign Ministers of the EU Strategy for Indo-Pacific Cooperation. The document demonstrates the EU's commitment to increasing its engagement with Indo-Pacific countries and contributing to the region's complex strategic challenges.
