On 6 September 2021, Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of a stronger Europe in the World, traveled in Bagdad, Irak, where he had a meeting with Fuad Hussein, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs.

This was the first official visit of Josep Borrell Fontelles to the country as High Representative.

The EU strongly supports Iraq’s stability and sovereignty, ahead of the early parliamentary elections in October that the EU will be monitoring.
