On 27 February 2022, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of a stronger Europe in the World, held a joint press point on further measures to react to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In her statement, Ursula namely announced the shutting down of the EU airspace for Russians, the ban in the EU the Kremlin's media machine, the targetting of the other aggressor in this war - Lukashenko's regime, and the exclusion of important Russian banks from the SWIFT system.
At the end of his speech, Josep Borrell Fontelles underlined that the EU will continue to coordinate with the Ukrainian government and neighbouring countries, to do everything possible to provide all the necessary support to the Ukrainian people, and to put a stop to this senseless war.
