For 30 years, the single market has helped keep
Europe strong and united.
And recent crises have shown how much our economy relies on it.
We must be better prepared for future crises
triggered by any unexpected and sudden event
of extraordinary nature and scale.
A new single market emergency instrument
will equip the EU
with means to rapidly respond to those critical situations.
The instrument will ensure the free movement of goods,
services, and people
with greater transparency and coordination.
It will help prevent shortages
and ensure the availability of crisis relevant products
and services
so that our economy can rely on a well-functioning single market
when we need it the most.
