On 8 June 2022, Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of an Economy that works for People, and Commissioner for Trade, attended a plenary session debate of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France on the human rights situation in Xinjiang, including the Xinjiang police files, in the framework of debates on cases of breaches of human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The Chinese Government is eroding the cultural and religious identity of the Uyghur people, justifying mass-scale and indiscriminate actions under the guise of the fight against terrorism.
