On 18 November 2022, Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of a stronger Europe in the World, travelled to Uzbekistan.
On this occasion, the Vice-President of the European Commission announced the launch of two 'Team Europe' initiatives for Central Asia as part of the 'Global Gateway'. The first deals with water, energy and climate change, the second with digital connectivity. Josep Borrell Fontelles ensured the support of the European Union in their connectivity projects.
