On 24 November 2022, Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of a stronger Europe in the World, and Olivér Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, travelled to Barcelona, Spain, to participate in 7th Union for the Mediterranean Regional Forum, co-chaired by Josep Borrell Fontelles, Ayman Al-Safadi, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and José Manuel Albares Bueno, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, and organised by Nasser Kamel, General Secretary of the Union for the Mediterranean. During the meeting, they discussed topics such as the cooperation and integration to tackle high unemployment rates, the climate emergency and the imbalance growth in a disintegrated region. Later, Josep Borrell Fontelles and Olivér Várhelyi attended the 4th EU-Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial Meeting.
