On 31 January 2024, a European ceremony in honour of Jacques Delors, former President of the European Commission, was organised at the Berlaymont building, headquarters of the European Commission, in Brussels, Belgium.On the occasion, several EU leaders and other high-level guests attended the commemoration, in addition to Jacques Delors' family and former colleagues.
Jacques Delors, an ardent advocate of post-war European integration, died on 27 December 2023 at the age of 98. He served as President of the European Commission, for three terms from January 1985 until the end of 1994.
During Delors' Commission, the EU namely completed its integrated Single Market, agreed to introduce a single currency and build a common Foreign and Security Policy.
