DestinE is a flagship initiative set up by the European Commission
to develop a highly accurate digital model of the Earth,
a “digital twin”.
Today, our team is checking out how DestinE models,
monitors, and simulates the interaction
between natural phenomena and human activities on our planet,
and how to mitigate their impact on the environment.
Thanks to the EuroHPC supercomputers,
artificial intelligence and high-speed connectivity networks,
DestinE will allow local decision makers and policy makers
to test different what-if scenarios
and see how they would turn out in the real world.
This will also be a powerful tool for scientists!
To enable policy makers, experts, business and non-professional users
to make informed decisions with ever higher accuracy,
DestinE will give them access to high quality data
related to identified environmental and societal challenges.
For example, it will be possible to see how human activities,
such as deforestation and fossil fuel emissions,
affect the environment,
and what we can do to adapt and better manage these effects.
Thanks to more precise information, we can be better prepared
to our daily and long-term challenges
in the local and global environment.
This visionary initiative will push the limits
of computing and climate sciences at unprecedented level,
helping to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent
by 2050.
