On 22 July 2024, Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of a stronger Europe in the World, chaired the Foreign Affairs Council held in Brussels, Belgium.

On this occasion, the Foreign Affairs Council namely discussed the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the expanding role of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in security and defence industry, as well as the situation in the Middle East.
