On 30 January 2025, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, brought together key European industry leaders, stakeholders and social partners for the launch of the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of the European Automotive Industry. This dialogue was based on the launch of an inclusive and collaborative process to address the critical challenges facing the automotive sector and to ensure its continuity as a key driver of the European economy. In addition to its economic impact, the industry ensured the safe and affordable mobility of EU citizens and businesses. The Commission stressed the urgent need to take action to protect the European automotive industry and to ensure its prosperity in the EU. In this context, Ursula von der Leyen has asked Apostolos Tzitzikostas, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, to present an action plan by 5 March 2025.
