Midday press briefing from 14/03/2025

Show transcript

Yes,

hello,

can you hear me?

We came in.

OK.

It's my question is on seasonal clock changes.

I'm not sure for which spokesperson,

perhaps Anna-Kaisa,

but I'm not sure.

Two questions.

The first one is,

is it true that the commission was planning or thinking about

withdrawing this proposal to abolish seasonal clock changes

because countries could not agree for too long.

So that's my first question.

Was there any consideration to do this?

And the second question is more general.

So the proposal is in place for more than 6 years now.

Do you still have any hope that the countries will agree and what the

European Commission is doing to help and

convince countries to agree to your proposal?

Thank you.

Thank you Mindaugga.

that was an unexpected question,

I have to admit.

now,

I don't know if any colleague will be able to help me,

Our approach to the simplification

package that we issued

a couple of weeks ago was precisely to look into what are

the legal proposals that we had tabled already for more than 5

years and which still have not resulted in a final agreement with.

The Council and the European Parliament,

and it was considered that anything which has been on the table for negotiation,

for co-decision for more than 5 years and still has not led to a result should be

withdrawn,

because clearly there is something

to be done about it.

Now,

specifically on this,

I don't know if it was in the list.

I know that it would comply with that principle that anything which is older than

5 years in terms of having been proposed by the Commission should be withdrawn.

I'm looking at colleagues,

has it been withdrawn?

Yes,

Anna-Kaisa is helping me here,

and it has been withdrawn indeed.

Good

It's on the list,

so I,

and I guess it's better you come and you address it so that we're sure that we have,

we put the record straight on this.

So it's still on the list

or not on the list.

Let us clarify.

Yes,

it is still on the list.

And

it is with Parliament and Council now for their deliberation

as well following following the Putin on the list.

Which means we have not withdrawn it.

We have not.

We have not withdrawn,

even though it's been there for more than 5 years.

It is correct.

It has gone through a couple of iterations over the years and.

And

as you hinted at yourself,

not the easiest

file for discussion in the council amongst the

Member states because it is ultimately something that requires

an understanding between Member states how to go forward with this,

but

it seems to be a parental favorite

now that we are

two weeks away from moving our clocks again.

In the meantime,

we continue to adjust our clocks throughout the EU.

Yes,
