BUDGET / CONDITIONAL MECHANISM - Fundings for Hungary: Q&A
Mr Sándor from Euronews,
it's on the budget.
Last week
26 MEPs demanded that the Commission suspend all fundings for Hungary,
and then Commissioner McGrath said at the European
Parliament that actually last week the College of Commissioners
discussed the future of the MFF and the rule of law conditionality.
So
is the full suspensions of Hungary is found
on the table?
I really am the right person to ask today,
given that I'm replacing Ma as well,
my colleague who is dealing with
a range of relevant issues.
Look,
what I can say is that at the moment we've
got a substantial amount of EU funding suspended for Hungary.
This amounts to about €18
billion and this is
by reason of the conditions and regulation
that we have discussed on many occasions.
because of the thematic enabling conditions,
the common provisions,
regulations,
and the milestones that relate to
the IRF.
So
at this stage,
what I can say is that we've received a letter and that you have
referred to
and we continuously analyzed the situation across the EU in all member states,
including in Hungary,
on the basis of the very
provisions and rules that I just referred.
Yeah,
and follow up.
And what was the scope of the discussion last week at the College of Commissioners?
Can you say,
can you tell a few details maybe?
On the MFF.
Well,
it was a
stocktaking exercise.
The MFF
proposal has been in the pipeline for quite a while.
It's something that requires a lot of preparation,
a lot of outreach efforts.
Commissioner Serafin has been going around Europe in the
context of what we call Tour de Hop in
order to seek the views of member states as
to how they see this upcoming MFF proposal,
which is foreseen for the 16th of July.
We've also been doing citizens panels reaching out to the.
Citizens to get their views as well,
specifically as to what they expect from the
EU budget and of course at a certain point it's absolutely normal that the College of
Commissioners also take the time to reflect a
little bit on where we are in this substantial
and extremely comprehensive preparation process,
so
I wouldn't have any further details to share in this discussion,
and I would
seek your patience for a little bit more and then
let's see what comes out on the 16 July.
Good.
Thank you.
Any other questions to Balazs?
No,
then we change topic,
Christian.
