Coronavirus: EU Digital COVID Certificate, data servers
The EU member states have agreed on a digital EU COVID Certificate to facilitate safe free movement inside the EU during the COVID-19 pandemic. The certificate is a proof that a person has been vaccinated against COVID-19, received a negative test result or recovered from COVID-19. It will be available, free of charge, in digital or paper format. It will include a QR code to ensure security and authenticity of the certificate. The Commission built a digital infrastructure connecting national IT systems, to exchange the public keys needed for verification between all national public key directories. Like that all certificate signatures can be verified across the EU. The infrastructure will run on a server in the Commission’s corporate data centre which is located in Luxembourg.
